VICE PRESIDENT – SUSTAINABLE INVESTING
Reports To: Chief Compliance Officer
Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, and working closely with the CEO, this individual has responsibility for researching and understanding ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues related to the Harvard endowment portfolio. Will work with investment professionals within HMC across asset classes to analyze how ESG issues are currently integrated into the investment process and suggest enhancements where appropriate. He/she will serve as the subject matter expert on current industry practices in ESG areas, possible partnerships related to ESG investing, and on new issues of interest emerging on our campus and others, including social impact investing. He/she will serve as HMC’s representative at campus and public forums related to ESG topics.
The VP will provide substantive staff support to Harvard University’s Corporation Committee on Shareholder Responsibility (“CCSR”) and serve as a primary liaison to other university offices, committees, and constituents on ESG/investor responsibility issues. At the request of the CCSR, he/she may be asked to research specific topics in-depth, engaging content experts, students and faculty, and producing high-quality and insightful synthesis of this work. The VP will also be responsible for drafting responses to ESG-related issues coming from media outlets, in coordination with HMC’s Communications Specialist and the University’s Communications office.
